Data Protection & Privacy Policy
Last updated: 22 August 2026
Who we are
City Economics Ltd (“City Economics”, “we”, “us”) is an independent research and advisory firm with offices in Lagos, Nigeria and London, United Kingdom. For the purposes of the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA), City Economics Ltd is the data controller for personal data collected through this website, www.cityeconomics.org.
We are committed to protecting the privacy of everyone who visits this website and everyone whose personal data we hold, in line with the NDPA and the regulations and guidance of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).
What personal data we collect
This website collects personal data in one place only: the contact form on our About & Contact page. If you choose to write to us, we collect the name you provide, your email address, and the content of your message, together with any other information you choose to include. We do not require you to create an account. Like most websites, when you browse this site your browser requests files from third-party content delivery services — currently image files from Unsplash and script files from Cloudflare’s cdnjs — and those services receive your IP address and standard request data in order to serve them. We do not send them anything else about you.
Like most websites, our hosting infrastructure keeps standard technical logs (such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested) for security and reliability. These logs are used only to operate and protect the website.
Why we collect it, and our lawful basis
We use the information you send through the contact form solely to respond to your enquiry and, where an enquiry leads to a professional engagement, to carry on that correspondence. Our lawful basis under the NDPA is your consent, given when you submit the form, and, where correspondence relates to entering or performing an engagement with us, the necessity of processing for that purpose.
We do not use your personal data for automated decision-making or profiling, we do not use it for marketing without your separate agreement, and we do not sell or rent personal data to anyone.
How long we keep it
We keep contact-form correspondence for as long as is needed to deal with your enquiry and any engagement that follows from it, and thereafter only as long as professional-records and legal obligations require. Correspondence that leads nowhere is deleted in the ordinary course of mailbox housekeeping.
Who we share it with
Your personal data is accessible to City Economics staff who need it to respond to you. Our website and email are operated on reputable third-party hosting infrastructure, whose providers process data on our behalf under their own security commitments. Contact-form submissions are delivered to our inbox through FormSubmit, a third-party form-relay service, which processes the information you send solely to deliver it to us. We do not otherwise share your personal data unless the law requires it.
International transfers
Because we operate from both Lagos and London, correspondence may be handled in either office. Where personal data collected in Nigeria is accessed from outside Nigeria, we do so consistently with the NDPA’s provisions on cross-border transfer, limited to what handling your enquiry requires. The third-party services named above may process data outside Nigeria; we limit what reaches them to what serving the site and delivering your message requires.
Security
We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against loss, misuse, and unauthorised access — including transport encryption (HTTPS) across this website and access controls on our correspondence systems.
Your rights
Under the NDPA you have the right to ask us for access to the personal data we hold about you; to have it corrected if it is inaccurate; to have it deleted; to restrict or object to its processing; to receive it in a portable form; and to withdraw consent at any time where consent is our basis for processing. Exercising these rights costs you nothing and does not affect how we treat your enquiries.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at info@cityeconomics.org with “Data Protection” in the subject line. We will respond within the timeframes the NDPA prescribes.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) — www.ndpc.gov.ng.
Changes to this policy
If we change how this website handles personal data, we will update this page and revise the date at the top. Material changes will be noted plainly here.
22 August 2026 — this policy was updated to name the third-party services that receive data when you browse this site or write to us: Unsplash and Cloudflare’s cdnjs, which serve image and script files, and FormSubmit, which relays contact-form submissions to our inbox. What we collect and how we use it did not change; this update describes the position more accurately.
